Official: Bayern confirm Lewandowski wants to leave
Bayern Munich have confirmed that Robert Lewandowski has asked to leave the club.
Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic announced the news ahead of the club’s final game of the season against Wolfsburg on Saturday.
What did Salihamidzic say about Lewandowski?
"I spoke to Lewandowski,” Salihamidzic said.
“During the conversation he informed me that he did not want to accept our offer to extend the contract and that he would like to leave the club.
"He said that he would like to try something new - But our position has not changed, Lewa has a contract until June 30, 2023. That is a fact."
Lewandowski’s future at Bayern has been in doubt for some time as his contract at the club expires in 2023, and there has been no progress in an extension being agreed.
According to numerous reports in the last couple of days, Lewandowski told Bayern chiefs that he wants to leave the club this summer and he will not pen a new deal.
That has now been confirmed by Salihamidzic.
Sport1’s Kerry Hau reported on Saturday that Lewandowski has agreed a three-year deal with Barcelona – and it is now just about convincing Bayern to let him go.
But Bayern, publicly at least, seem determined right now to keep hold of Lewandowski.
In addition to Salihamidzic, club president Herbert Heiner said on Friday: "Robert Lewandowski has a contract with Bayern until June 2023 - and he will fulfil it.”
