West Ham are set to offer Declan Rice a bumper eight-year contract in a bid to ward of interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar are three of the five best-paid athletes in the world, according to sports industry specialists Sportico.

While basketball boasts the highest number of athletes in the top 100 earners with 36, only one of their number – LeBron James – outmatches soccer-playing trio Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar.
