Messi opened the scoring after five minutes before doubling his side’s lead on 45 minutes.

Messi’s five-goal show means he has become the first player in history to score five goals in both a Champions League game and an international game in football history.

Leo famously bagged all five goals for Barcelona against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League in 2012.

Ten years later he has done it again as he closed a fantastic week internationally for Argentina.

On Wednesday, Argentina thrashed Italy 3-0 at Wembley in the Finalissima which was a one-off final for the South American champions against the European champions.

Messi failed to score in that game but was man-of-the-match as he set up two of Argentina’s goals and created numerous chances.

The 34-year-old has enjoyed sensational end to the 2021-22 season with Argentina after enduring a miserable campaign for his club team PSG.

Messi completed a shock Free Transfer to PSG last summer after he was unable to sign a new contract with Barcelona.

The Argentine legend broke virtually every record during over 20 years at Camp Nou, scoring an incredible 672 goals in 778 games.

However, Messi has been slammed by fans and the media following a disappointing first season at the Parc des Princes.

He scored just six Ligue 1 goals this past season and performed poorly as PSG were dumped out of the Champions League – capitulating from 2-0 up on aggregate to lose 3-2 to Real Madrid in the last-16.

But Messi continues to be Argentina’s star man ahead of the World Cup later this year.
