Manchester United are not entertaining the idea of terminating Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract, even if he forgoes any money he is owed, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs writes for FootballTransfers.
I've asked about the termination and whether Ronaldo would be willing to forego anything he is owed and I understand that it's not a possibility.
Manchester United will not entertain terminating Cristiano Ronaldo's contract, even if he came to them and said he won't ask for anything.
Now, of course, if that eventuality happened and it came to such a head, then, who knows how Manchester United would react, without having to pay him anything.
But it's not something the club are entertaining, and it's hypothetical, because Cristiano Ronaldo would never come to Manchester United and say I want to buy myself out of my remaining part of my contract and become a free agent unless he's got a concrete offer.
And Ronaldo hasn't got anywhere else to go. The last thing he's going to do is walk up and say 'I want out in a World Cup year' a few weeks before the window closes and then find he doesn't have an option.

I feel that in the Ronaldo camp, that if a club comes in with a tangible offer, whether permanent or loan, there is a belief on the Ronaldo end - and of course they're going to say this - that Manchester United will u-turn on their 'not for sale' stance.
Contract termination shouldn't come into this, because if an offer comes, Manchester United will have the ability to say to Cristiano Ronaldo - because of their understanding of the situation - that they're going to consider it.

That will be the 'either or' scenario that he'll be forced to stay, and as we get closer to the end of the window, Manchester United will be bullish on that stance or if an offer finally comes to test that position, then at that point, they can look at it on a case-by-case basis and determine what they want to do between now and the end of the window.
The other thing to stay, is that if he does end up staying at Manchester United, Jorge Mendes then has a few months to work on something between now and the World Cup to work on something for January.
Then again, Manchester United, with even less time remaining on his contract, have more reason to say that they've tried working with him for the first few months, and Ten Hag's got a sense of the player, the World Cup is over, let's look to offload him in January.
That's another possibility of how it may work. I understand it's always been that if Ronaldo came to Manchester United at this point in the window and said he wanted to terminate his contract, asking for absolutely nothing, or even if he said that he would pay Manchester United to buy himself out of his contract, then Manchester United would say - now even more so that they've got injury problems - that they would not entertain that possibility.
