Fans fume as Man Utd midfielder wanted by Premier League rival
Newcastle are looking into a summer move for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay but the news has left Magpie supporters fuming.
Luke Edwards of The Telegraph reports that manager Eddie Howe feels the Scotland international has the qualities to fit into his system.
McTominay has not made his mark under Erik ten Hag, being mainly used as a substitute, with the Dutchman using Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Fred instead.

Newcastle had been linked to the player in January but no move materialised and the club ended up not bringing in anyone.
The club know Ten Hag will need to raise money in player sales and they hope to take advantage of that.
The contingent of chief scout Steve Nickson, director of football Dan Ashworth and Howe all believe he would be a good fit for the club.
But supporters are not impressed with the idea of going for McTominay - and have been raging online overseeing his name linked once more.
It's a hard sell for me personally. Physically, Scott McTominay is one of the best in the league - which Howe clearly values. On the ball however, there's a lot left to be desired.
Whether you view him as a no. 6 or no. 8 (or both), there are much better options out there. #NUFC https://t.co/brkYFmdUNm— Sanjay (@nufcsanjay) March 20, 2023
Absolutely no one can convince me that Scott Mctominay would be a good signing

Scott McTominay represents my biggest fear with Eddie Howe.
I would much rather see Sean Longstaff's name on that first team-sheet next season.
Avoid "greedy six" cast-offs at all costs.
They want rid for good reasons. #NUFC— 🐧N🦇I🦅C🐥K🐦Y🦉 (@fORgEtMeAlWays_) March 20, 2023
IMO I wouldn’t go anywhere near McTominay #NUFC

If Scott McTominay was from Brazil, was called Scott McTominho and was good at football then Newcastle fans would be desperate to sign him 🙄

I’ve heard you out. However, I wouldn’t be playing Mctominay ahead of Sean Longstaff. Our boy is simply a better midfielder. Just my opinion, like. https://t.co/utx9lDRvwr

Anthony Gordon was my signing where I’m happy to give the Club the benefit of the doubt, and hoping to be proved wrong.. I’m not sure I can make the same exceptions for Scott Mctominay 🫠

McTominay as No.6
Despite the kickback from fans, Newcastle want McTominay as a deep-lying midfielder to allow Bruno Guimaraes to play in a more advanced role, with it thought that the Red Devils player has the desired attributes.
There is also the belief that he could still improve under Howe’s coaching and become a key asset to the side.
