Newcastle reignite interest in Atletico Madrid loanee
Nottingham Forest wingback Renan Lodi is still on the radar of Newcastle over a summer move.
Outlet 90min reports that the Magpies have reignited their interest in the Brazil ace.
Lodi is currently on loan with the Midlands side, who have the option to sign him permanently in the upcoming window.
Newcastle had talks with Lodi and his representative before, FootballTransfers sources told us last year, but Forest swooped in on the defender.
Newcastle signed Matt Targett from Aston Villa in the summer after his successful loan spell, leaving Lodi available to other clubs.
Is it thought that Steve Cooper’s side will be active the £25 million price Atletico Madrid have asked for should they remain in the Premier League for the next campaign.
We are told that Lodi wishes to stay in England and has huge ambitions of getting into the Brazil national side.
Despite a stuttering start to life at Forest, now Lodi has become a key member of the side, with each passing game seeing an improvement to his game.
Forest have a contingent of Brazilian players at the City Ground, including Danilo, Gustavo Scarpa and Felipe, who played with Lodi previously.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes among their ranks, while Lodi has a friendship with Kieran Trippier, with them playing on opposite sides at Atletico.
Everton throw hat in ring
Another linked club is Everton, who will be undergoing a rebuild under Sean Dyche in the summer. They have reportedly identified the left-back Renan Lodi as an option to bring into Goodison Park.
With Vitalii Mykolenko playing further ahead, the club are looking for someone to fill the spot in the defence.
Overall, Lodi has made 21 appearances for Forest this season. It is thought that Atletico will look to cash in on Lodi irrespective of whether Forest stay up this season and choose not to active his release clause in the upcoming window.
