Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool will sign two to three midfielders this summer and that Mason Mount is a priority target.

On Tuesday it was revealed that Liverpool had pulled out of the race to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, who had previously been their top transfer target for the summer.

But Romano has tried to cheer up Liverpool supporters by revealing some good news about their transfer plans and the possibility of signing Chelsea’s Mason Mount.

What did Romano say about Mount to Liverpool

"After missing out on Bellingham, I wanted to say something positive for Liverpool fans," Romano explained.

"Liverpool will go for at least two midfielders in the summer, probably even three. They will have to replace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and they want to go for important players in that position.

"I'm told that Mason Mount is one of the priority targets. They really love the player. They have already had some contacts to understand the conditions of the potential deal. But it depends also on Chelsea's next manager and if they are able to come to an agreement with Mount on a new deal.

"So the talks will resume in the next months and then we will understand the future of Mount. But at the moment it looks complicated to extend the contract at current conditions."

It now seems increasingly possible that Mount will leave Chelsea at the end of the season after contract renewal talks broke down.

Mount’s contract at Chelsea expires at the end of next season and talks over a renewal made no headway for over a year before they were stopped recently.

Both Liverpool and Man Utd are interested in signing Mount this summer, with the former widely regarded as strong favourites for his signature.

Chelsea are expected to sell Mount this summer if a new contract isn’t signed, to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2024.
