Harry Amass is set to join Manchester United from Watford after the player turned down a proposal from Chelsea and an approach from Manchester City, FootballTransfers can confirm.

The Evening Standard broke the news two weeks ago and sources informed us yesterday that a move was set to go ahead and that the 16-year-old will join the Red Devils as a scholar.

Club sources told FootballTransfers that the move was not ‘complete’ yet but they admitted interest was certainly there.

We are told that Amass has picked Man Utd because there is a decent project on offer and because the club have had a habit under Erik ten Hag of giving youth players first-team minutes.

It is thought that the left-back could go on to become the successor to Luke Shaw in the coming years.

Furthermore, we are led to believe that Amass will come in and be something of a replacement for Zach Giggs, son of club legend Ryan Giggs.

Zach is currently away on trial with Sheffield United and is not expected to return to the Red Devils.

Amass can play as a left-back and as a centre-back. Despite his young age, he was named among the substitutes for Watford's FA Cup clash with Reading back in January.

He will join at the end of the season, we are told, before signing professional terms when he turns 17.

He follows Gabriele Biancheri, another highly rated 16-year-old, who joined Man Utd as a scholar.

Biancheri is another who was looked at by a sum of Premier League clubs but opted to join up with Man Utd in lieu of other interests.

Ten Hag looks to youth

It comes after the news that Ten Hag has attempted to alleviate the injury crisis by inviting four youngsters into first-team training ahead of Sunday’s clash with Southampton.

The likes of Donny van de Beek, Christian Eriksen, and Marcel Sabitzer are out, as well as Anthony Martial.

Sam Murray, Omari Forson, Marc Jurado and Dan Gore were all pictured getting involved at Carrington ahead of the Saints’ match.
