Biggest reason why Todd Boehly hired Graham Potter as Chelsea boss

Chelsea hired Graham Potter because he was so adept at working with the executives and owners.

A report from the Daily Mail suggests that the former Brighton boss was brought in as he would be easy to work with.

The publication goes on to state that the club regret sacking Thomas Tuchel, who they still rate as a great manager.

As for Potter, Chelsea’s owners are said to still rate the Englishman and feel he may yet prove himself at a big club, with reports recently linking him to the Nice job.

The Blues are headed in a new direction already - they are close to appointing former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino in the summer.

The Argentine will bring assistant Jesus Perez as well as other coaching staff. He won’t begin work until the end of the season, though, with Frank Lampard free to continue his work on an interim basis until the campaign concludes.

Pochettino and the club’s sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley are discussing potential targets - with it thought that they want to bring in a striker, midfielder and goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea's torrid season summed up by Lampard

Chelsea currently sit 11th in the Premier League table on 43 points - another loss would match the 1997-98 campaign in terms of most losses in the league.

Speaking after his side's 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge with Nottingham Forest, Lampard spoke about the issues on the pitch.

“The second half was ours, control of the game was ours, obviously, in terms of possession, but in the first half we weren't dynamic enough in the top end of the pitch,' he said.

“Everything we spoke about at the start of the game, it was too slow. Unfortunately, it seems to be intrinsic here at the minute where we play a lot of passes but they are not to break lines or to threaten the opposition in the top end of the pitch.”
