‘Ivan Toney will join Arsenal in 2024’
Ivan Toney will join Arsenal in 2024, according to former Chelsea star Scott Minto.
The Gunners are in the market for a striker in the new year and have been looking at a number of top options.
These include Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus, Victor Osimhen of Napoli and Brentford striker Toney.
All three players have been followed by both Arsenal and Chelsea, as the two London sides are both looking to strengthen their number nine position.
But Minto believes that Toney will end up at Arsenal rather than his former club.
The ex-full back does add, though, that he doesn’t see the transfer being completed in the January transfer window but rather at the end of the season.
What did Minto say about Toney?
“Brentford fans know that it’s not a case of if he goes, it’s when he goes,” Minto said on TalkSport.
“I think he owes the club to stay until the end of the season, but then he’s gone. As much as I’d love to see him at Chelsea, I think he will be an Arsenal player next season.”
Toney will return from his betting ban in January 2024 with Brentford open to selling the striker, who will turn 28 in March.
There have been some doubts whether Toney can make the step up at Arsenal, but he has proven himself as one of the best English strikers around in recent years with 20 Premier League goals in 2022-23.
It has been reported that Brentford will ask for a fee of around £60 million for Toney, whose previous clubs include Peterborough United, Northampton and Newcastle.
He has won one cap for the England national team and he is hoping to work his way back into the squad for Euro 2024 next summer.
