Ghanaian parliament apologises for mocking Harry Maguire
The Ghanaian MP who infamously mocked Harry Maguire last year has apologised to the Manchester United defender, praising him for his improved form.
Ghanaian MP Issac Adongo went viral in December 2022 during a debate in parliament when he branded the nation's vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia an "economic Maguire",
Adongo compared Bawumia’s role in Ghana’s economic crisis to the decline of Maguire since joining Manchester United.
“[Before moving to Man Utd] Maguire was tackling everybody and throwing his body everywhere... he was seen as the best defender in the world,” Adongo said in parliament December 2022 as his fellow MPs roared with laugther.
"[But after joining Man Utd] he became the biggest threat at the centre of the Manchester United defence"
"[He was] tackling Manchester players and giving assists to opponents. Mr Speaker, when you see the opponents go to score, Maguire will score for them.
"Mr Speaker," he continued, "you remember in this country we also have an economic Maguire. This economic Maguire, we're clapping saying this man is the best in managing foreign terms.
"The same economic Maguire was at Central University delivering lectures on how to restore the value of the Cedi (Ghana's currency). Mr Speaker why we gave this Maguire the opportunity to be at the centre of our defence, he became the rest of our own goals."
“Today, Maguire has turned the corner and is a transformational footballer”

Belatedly, Adongo has now apologised for his words and has hailed Maguire for his transformation in recent weeks.
Maguire has won his place back in the Manchester United team this season and has put in some impressive performances, something that has not gone unnoticed to Adongo.
“Last year I was very quick to compare Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to Harry Maguire. Mr Speaker, I now apologise to Harry Maguire.
“Today, Maguire has turned the corner and is a transformational footballer.
“Maguire is now scoring goals. Harry Maguire is now a key player for Manchester United.
“As for our Maguire, he is now at the IMF, with a cup in hand,” Adongo sniped as he continued his criticism of Bawumia.
