Manchester United are enduring a disastrous 2023-24 season, having made the worst start to a campaign in over 30 years.

They are well off the pace at the top of the Premier League, already out of the League Cup and were eliminated from the Champions League group stages.

Manager Erik ten Hag is at the risk of the sack, while a host of players are under fire.

As a result, several stars have already left Man Utd this month and there are a number of players who could yet follow suit. We take a look at five possible departures.

Facundo Pellistri

Despite having a severe shortage of reliable options on the wing, Facundo Pellistri could follow Jadon Sancho in heading for the exit. The Uruguayan, who seemingly plays more regularly for his country than his club, certainly has no shortage of suitors.

Eredivisie leaders PSV have been said to be interested in securing the 22-year-old's services on loan, as have Brazilian giants Flamengo. The LA Galaxy, meanwhile, are reportedly trying to engineer a permanent move for the attacker.

Alvaro Fernandez

A name likely forgotten by many Red Devils fans, Alvaro Fernandez spent the first half of the campaign on loan at LaLiga side Granada, but will apparently have his stay in the south of Spain cut short.

Benfica are in advanced negotiations with United over the left-back and he could soon join the reigning Portuguese champions on an initial loan deal that will become permanent if he reaches a certain number of appearances.

Amad Diallo

Man Utd will not offload Amad Diallo on a permanent deal in January, but they may sanction another loan move following the success of his season at Championship side Sunderland last term.

The Ivorian netted 13 league goals for Tony Mowbray's side as they reached the play-off semi-finals before succumbing to eventual winners Luton Town.

A knee injury means he hasn’t played at all so far this season and United may feel a loan move will do him good to work his way back into form ahead of 2024-25.

His former club Atalanta have been attributed with interest.

Casemiro

A more unlikely departure but not completely impossible is that of Casemiro.

Outstanding in his first season at Man Utd, the 31-year-old has found the going more difficult in his second campaign, despite holding down a place as a regular when available under Ten Hag. This has led to questions over whether the player is past it.

There have been widespread reports of interest from Saudi Arabia, with former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo hoping to convince the Brazilian to join him there.

Dan Gore

Youngster Dan Gore is unlikely to break into Ten Hag's senior team anytime soon despite reportedly impressing, so he is expected to leave the club on loan this month.

Borussia Dortmund were recently rumoured to be plotting a shock permanent swoop, but a loan to a lower division English side appears the most likely scenario for the 19-year-old midfielder.
