Aguero attracts attention with Man City outfit at Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix ahead of Liverpool clash
All eyes were at the Etihad Stadium this weekend as the Premier League returned with Manchester City playing host to Liverpool but one of the champions’ former stars was attracting attention for the club from across the globe.
Legendary goalscorer Sergio Aguero was not at the Etihad but rather in Abu Dhabi for this weekend’s Formula 1 Grand Prix, where he was donning overalls in the style of City’s kit, including the Argentine’s name and number on the back.
The Grand Prix naturally holds close ties to City due to their ownership by Sheikh Mansour, who is the Vice President of the United Arab Emirates as well as the City Football Group.
Aguero’s outfit drew amusement on social media but also provided City fans with fond memories of their former striker sporting their badge, with the 35-year-old having scored a record 260 goals for the club between 2011 and 2021.
While his old club took on Liverpool in a clash of the titans in the Premier League, Aguero was seen walking through the paddock in Abu Dhabi and showed his support to City in the most extravagant way possible.
Aguero had also revealed recently that he was a fan of British racer Lewis Hamilton, who sits third in the 2023 F1 standings behind Sergio Perez and reigning champion Max Verstappen, who has retained his title for a third straight year.
These overalls are bang on target 👌

Aguero admits Liverpool support
Although Aguero will undoubtedly be hoping for City to gain three points this weekend, the talismanic forward admitted he grew up a fan of rivals Liverpool.
He told Stake: "I used to like Liverpool when I was younger because of [Michael] Owen, who had also started as a teenager. Even when I was playing on my Playstation, I tried to play like Owen!"
Aguero also revealed he was excited by the match, admitting you ‘can’t miss that one’ and he will certainly be watching despite being in Abu Dhabi, with the football coincides with a break between practice laps and the qualification rounds before the race on Sunday.
