Kylian Mbappe celebrated his birthday in style, scoring twice in Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-1 win over Metz, but arguably his happiest moment will have come from seeing his younger brother Ethan make his senior debut for the club.

Ethan Mbappe was introduced as a substitute in injury time for his professional debut, allowing the two brothers to share a pitch together as PSG continued their run of nine wins in their last ten games.

The 16-year-old, who will turn 17 in nine days time, watched from the bench as brother Kylian produced a man-of-the-match display on his 25th birthday with his two second half goals.

Despite only playing one minute, Ethan made nine touches and completed all nine of his passes, including one into the final third, marking a memorable night for the Mbappe family.

Ethan has been seen on the sidelines of Mbappe’s iconic matches throughout his career, having also stood alongside his brother as a child when Kylian signed for PSG in 2017.

The younger Mbappe joined PSG’s youth team at the same time and featured for the senior team in their pre-season tour of Asia this summer.

Mbappe brothers face uncertain futures

Both Mbappes have their contracts up at the end of the season and it is unclear where their futures lie, with Kylian being able to sign a pre-contract agreement from January.

The French captain is expected to open talks with Real Madrid over a summer transfer, having come close to joining them in 2022 before penning his new deal.

However, Mbappe’s decision is not believed to have been made and PSG have not given up hope of convincing the forward to extend with them once again.

PSG boss Luis Enrique brushed off rumours of a rift between him and Mbappe, insisting his relationship with his talismanic star is ‘perfect’ before jokingly adding: "We are not couple but almost and it's because he doesn't want us to be."
