CONFIRMED: Brentford in talks for Real Betis attacker Assane Diao

Brentford are in talks with Assane Diao of Real Betis over a possible January deal, FootballTransfers can confirm.

Currently sitting in 16th place, just four points above the relegation zone, the team is keen on strengthening their attack to turn their fortunes around - and Thomas Frank believes the versatile player can help and bring goals.

The Bees are in discussions with Betis but we understand that it's unlikely a move will take place unless the Premier League outfit meets the £26milllion release in its entirety.

At 18 years old, Diao has showcased impressive skills at Real Betis this season, contributing four goals in 18 games. His contract with the Andalusian club is set to expire in 2027, but the prospect of a move to Brentford is being seriously considered.

Diao is a huge fan of Betis and is in no rush to make a move, though talks will commence if his release clause is triggered. Chelsea hold an interest in Diao but at the moment the club must sell to buy.

What has Diao said about his future?

Diao spoke about his future earlier this year, talking up his current club. He said: “Betis is my home, I feel at home, I am very happy here, they have given me everything and all I want is to give it back. I still had one year left on my contract and if I hadn't renewed I would still be here, but what both my family and I said is that we are very happy and our idea was to continue.

“That of the club was also and it could have happened. We are very happy about it, we couldn't be more happy. The club and we for our part have shown that it was the best we could do. To continue working hand in hand.”

"It is a difficult decision. You have to talk to your environment, to the club you come from and each player has a decision. It can be better or worse. Gabri Viega, who was there with me in the under-21 team, where he was also talking, saw it favorably.

"I don't see it bad. I think he's fine. It is a good decision made by him. If his surroundings think so, it's not bad at all. I'm staying here, yes, I'm very happy."
