EXCLUSIVE: Fulham back out of Cordoba deal over Russia concerns
Fulham have decided to withdraw from negotiations with Krasnodar for Colombian striker Jhon Cordoba over concerns about dealing with a Russian club, FootballTransfers has learned.
We are told that, despite there being direct talks between the Cottagers and Krasnodar regarding a £7 million option-to-buy deal, the London-based club have now opted to abandon the negotiations.
The proposed deal was in line with Premier League regulations - as there are no specific rules against engaging with clubs from the Russian Premier League - but given the current climate, Fulham have decided to abandon a deal, we are told.
The discussions between Fulham and Krasnodar had been progressing towards a £7 million option to secure Cordoba's services for this January window. The Colombian striker had drawn interest from Fulham, but the club have now had a change of heart.
While the specific reasons for Fulham's withdrawal from the deal remain undisclosed, sources close to the matter suggest that the club might have reconsidered its stance on engaging with Russian clubs amid the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
Fulham in contract talks with Bobby De Cordova-Reid
Fulham are also in talks with Bobby De Cordova-Reid over a contract extension after impressing Marco Silva.
After another impressive performance in Fulham's win against Chelsea earlier this month, the head coach said: "Bobby is a really good example. Even to change something in the games, to prepare the games as well if you have a certain number of players on the pitch who can help me to take different decisions during the game.'
"Bobby already for me has played in three of four different positions. Even against Chelsea, he was our plan B to play as a striker."
