Liverpool rivals ready to pounce for Curtis Jones

Liverpool could be facing bids for midfielder Curtis Jones this summer, according to the Daily Mail, with Premier League rivals down south taking notice of his performances.

The 23-year-old has started nine of Liverpool’s 15 Premier League games this season having spent a considerable amount of time out of the team through injury and suspension.

He has been a mainstay in the side in recent weeks, scoring goals against Newcastle in the Premier League, Fulham in the EFL Cup and Norwich City in the FA Cup.

And the man who at 19 became the youngest player ever to captain the Reds has emerged onto the wishlist of Liverpool’s Premier League rivals, according to Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail.

Liverpool's post-Klopp uncertainty

While Mokbel did not name which teams are in the frame for Jones bid, the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly interested in adding midfielders this summer. Jones won’t come cheap with Premier League-winning pedigree and with a contract until 2027.

However, with continued uncertainty at Anfield - with no sporting director and manager Jurgen Klopp on the way out of the door - Liverpool’s rivals could well take advantage and swoop in with an attractive bid.

"Curtis Jones heading into the summer,” Mokbel told the “It’s All Kicking Off” podcast.

“Again, another really very good player, but his performances are catching the attention of a number of clubs I'm told.

“He's at Liverpool, you know, and he's at his hometown club. I don't know his contractual situation off the top of my head, but he's attracting interest from a number of clubs and from English clubs, some clubs in the south.

“But again, you know, he is a player who will probably be central to Liverpool's future when Jürgen Klopp goes.

“But I think if there's any sense that he is available or obtainable, I think there'll be some clubs who would and take advantage of that situation.”

Fellow Mail journalist, Ian Ladyman, urged the Reds to do all they could to guard against a Jones departure given his rate of development this season.

“That's really interesting, lots of interest from big London clubs. You can probably work out who they are.

“If I was Liverpool, regardless of what's happening with Jurgen Klopp, I would wrap that boy up in cotton wool.

“I would throw money at his feet, buy him a house, give him a new car, send him on a holiday, do whatever he wants, keep him at Anfield, he's a top player.”
