Arsenal pursuit of €115m star makes Pochettino's worst Chelsea fears come true
Conor Gallagher looks set to be sacrificed by Chelsea this summer, with his contract only lasting until 2025 and no new deal on the horizon.
The 24-year-old midfielder is estimated to earn around £50,000 per week and if no new deal is agreed then Chelsea risk losing him for nothing next summer.
That is a situation that the Blues are seeking to avoid, with financial pressure on the club due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules and UEFA’s financial fair play regulations.
It’s been reported that Chelsea would have to sell up to £100 million worth of talent before the end of June to avoid falling foul of FFP laws and as a homegrown player Gallagher would represent “pure profit” for the Stamford Bridge side.

Accordingly, there is a chase on for the England international’s signature, with Tottenham reportedly coming close to adding him to the ranks last summer.
No deal was agreed however with Gallagher going on to become a mainstay of Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield this season and taking over the captain’s armband on multiple occasions. It is thought that the Argentine is keen to keep hold of Gallagher, but it may be out of his hands.
Newcastle scouting Gallagher as Guimaraes replacement
Now comes the news that Newcastle have been scouting Gallagher in recent fixtures - including Chelsea’s 4-3 win over Manchester United earlier this month - amid fears that Bruno Guimaraes will depart St. James’ Park this summer.
If Bruno goes then a high-quality replacement will need to be sourced and Gallagher looks set to be top of Eddie Howe’s wish list.
According to the Newcastle Chronicle, a deal for Gallagher could be done at the £40m mark.
Gallagher could be one of a number of Blues stars heading for the exit this summer as Todd Boehly’s BlueCo22 seek to recover some of the £1bn they have spent since taking control of the club in 2022.
Also linked with a move away from the Bridge have been Marc Cucurella, Benoit Badiashile, Ian Maatsen, Romelu Lukaku, among others.
