The Magpies will be wanting to spend big in the summer window after enduring such a shoddy season amock with injuries and absences.

One of the glaring issues for Newcastle is their defensive frailties. Now reporter Ruben Uria has revealed that the Premier League outfit, along with Atletico Madrid and Napoli, have offered money for Le Normand of Real Sociedad.

It’s thought that Diego Simeone is looking to overhaul his defence, with Mario Hermoso set to leave at the end of his contract.

Atleti have offered €20m plus their player Javi Galan, who is currently on loan in Donostia-San Sebastian.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have offered €25m plus €5m in bonuses, whereas the reigning Serie A champions Napoli have offered €2m more.

But the report states that the Spaniard would prefer a switch to Atletico above all overs. However, it’s worth noting that Le Normand’s preference would be to stay in La Liga with Atleti.

Real Sociedad aren’t in an immediate rush to sell Le Normand - the centre-back’s contract ends in 2026, while none of the offered proposals have been accepted yet.

Newcastle have seen Sven Botman and Jamal Lascelles receive injuries in recent weeks, with both set to be out for a considerable period.

But the club have been in the market for a defender even before the pair became unavailable.

Who else are Newcastle targeting?

Newcastle have also been linked to Sporting CP players Ousmane Diomande and holding midfielder Morten Hjumland – who both have £70m release clauses, according to HITC.

The pair have also been linked with moves to Chelsea and Manchester United, respectively. The Red Devils see the Denmark international Hjumland as a possible alternative to Benfica’s Joao Neves, who could cost considerably more.
