Newcastle respond to Arsenal's Ramsdale asking price
Arsenal will need to find another suitor for Aaron Ramsdale as Newcastle are refusing to meet the Gunners' £30 million asking price.
Ramsdale joined Arsenal from Sheffield United for an initial fee of £24m in 2021 and enjoyed a couple of years as the club's number one goalkeeper.
However, last summer Mikel Arteta made the decision to bring in David Raya from Brentford on loan with the option to buy and the Spaniard has usurped Ramsdale as the first-choice keeper at the Emirates.
Arsenal will trigger the option to sign Raya permanently for £27m so Ramsdale will have to leave if he doesn't want to be a backup.
Eddie Howe is looking to sign a new keeper this summer to provide competition for Nick Pope, who missed a large portion of last season due to a dislocated shoulder. Newcastle have also been looking at James Trafford of Burnley and Giorgi Mamardashvili of Valencia, but the latter presents an even more expensive option than Ramsdale.
Seaman: Ramsdale needs to leave Arsenal
Legendary former Arsenal keeper David Seaman believes Ramsdale needs to leave Arsenal in order to keep his place in the England squad. The former Sheffield Utd stopper will likely head to Euro 2024, but as a backup to Jordan Pickford.
"You aren’t going to develop being a number two," he said on the Seaman Says podcast.
"You’re going to get left behind in the pecking order because other goalkeepers will start playing.
"As an Arsenal fan, I don’t really want Aaron Ramsdale to go. But then as an ex-England goalkeeper, I want to see another keeper developing.
"When I’m looking at it, I think he could go to somewhere like Chelsea to give himself a better shot of getting first-team action. I think there are a few clubs who he would suit, maybe someone like West Ham too."
Ramsdale made just 11 appearances in all competitions for the North London giants this season.
