Ten Hag CONFIRMS Man Utd's Tuchel talks

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag confirmed that the club held talks with Thomas Tuchel before deciding to keep the Dutchman in the job.

The club, under the leadership of co-owners Ineos, had conducted an extensive review of the managerial situation upon the conclusion of the season.

Man Utd slumped to their worst-ever Premier League finish, landing in eighth spot, but they still ended the season on a high note with an FA Cup win over Manchester City.

After the victory at Wembley, Man Utd engaged with several candidates over becoming the new head coach at Old Trafford but ultimately decided to keep Ten Hag.

Some of the names who spoke to the club over the position included Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi, former coach of Brighton, and Thomas Tuchel, who departed Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Speaking on Dutch TV NOS' coverage of Euro 2024, Ten Hag said "Manchester United have told me that they spoke with Tuchel, but they eventually came to the conclusion that they already have the best manager."

It’s now been widely reported that Man Utd that the side will offer Ten Hag a new contract and talks are underway.

The former Ajax boss has just one year left on his current deal and the club are eager to tie him down to an extended period.

Ten Hag continued: "Manchester United and I still have to find an agreement for the new contract. This isn't easily done, we are still going to have to talk about this."

"Ineostook their time. They are new in football, it's normal to reflect the season. It's no secret that they talked with multiple candidates." When he was asked how it felt to hear that the club spoke with other coaches, Ten Hag added: "Here in Holland this is 'not done', in fact, it's not even allowed here. But in England they have different rules and laws."
