Brentford are prepared to significantly reduce their asking price for Ivan Toney to under £50 million due to a surprising lack of interest from top clubs.

Initially, Brentford had hoped to spark a bidding war for the England striker, setting the price tag at over £80 million after his return from an eight-month gambling ban in January.

Clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal were all linked to Toney but since the spring, such reports have dried up and he is set to remain with the West London club.

Indeed, The Sun reports that all three have communicated to Brentford that they have no intention of bidding for Toney this window.

This is for separate reasons: Arsenal are prioritising a striker this summer, focusing instead on other positions, while they believe that Kai Havertz is suitable for the No.9 role. Chelsea have now deemed that Toney is too old for their long-term plans, while their attention is more on bringing in a left-sided attacker.

Lastly, Man Utd recently acquired striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36.5 million, addressing their offensive needs, and they have Rasmus Hojlund with them as well.

It’s thought that Tottenham and West Ham are now the most likely destinations for Toney. Brentford had anticipated a higher level of interest and are now faced with the reality of having to lower their financial expectations, dropping the price by £30m.

The club had plans to sell Toney during the winter transfer window fell through, as elite sides battled with PSR, with each not being able to afford Toney without receiving a sanction.

Toney's future remains uncertain as Brentford but as of now, it looks as though the England striker, who last year changed agencies with CAA Base, will be staying put.
