TeamTalk states that the Toffees man is unwilling to continue at Everton past his deal and is ‘likely to depart in the summer’, which would make a move easier for the Red Devils.

Man Utd are close to signing Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee but they are considering pairing him with another new attacker, with Calvert-Lewin deemed to be a suitable choice, as well as England striker Ivan Toney.

Calvert-Lewin could well join a current teammate at the club as manager Erik ten Hag also keen on Jarrad Branthwaite.

His last contract renewal with Everton was in March 2020. But he has been plagued by injury issues, with 32 appearances and seven goals last season, and just seven goals in 34 league games over the previous two seasons.

Ineos have started to make major moves this summer window. Man Utd are one step away from signing Joshua Zirkzee, while they are also closing in on the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich, and there are also talks with Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain which have been widely reported.

Indeed, Toney and Calvert-Lewin have been internally discussed at Man Utd as potential options for their attack, though this could see a reduction in game-time for Ramus Hojlund, who arrived from Atalanta last summer.

Both players have indicated that they won't be extending their expiring contracts at their respective clubs so a deal could be made below market value.

The club are looking to offload a number of players this summer too, with Donny van de Beek (Girona) and Mason Greenwood (Marseille) already out the door.
