Man Utd table €60m bid for Euro 2024 star
Manchester United have tabled an official €60m bid for Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi.
That is according to Nacional, who report that United have made an offer to pay the €60m release clause in the midfielder’s contract.
The Red Devils are in the market for a defensive midfielder. After deciding against making Sofyan Amrabat's loan from Fiorentina permanent and with Casemiro still potentially on the way out, Man Utd need new reinforcements in the middle of the park.
Their top target for the position had been Manuel Ugarte of PSG.
However, the French giants are keen to make a profit on the 23-year-old, having only signed him from Sporting CP for €60m last summer.
Thus, United have turned their attention to Zubimendi, who has become one of Europe's most in-demand players in that position and he is available for just €60m due to a release clause in his contract.
Zubimendi at Euro 2024
Zubimendi enjoyed a fantastic Euro 2024 as Spain won the title and he was deemed by many to have been the key man in the 2-1 final win over England.
The midfielder came on at half time for Rodri with the score at 0-0 and immediately changed the game.
Man Utd face competition from Arsenal. Zubimendi is considered Mikel Arteta's dream target at Arsenal, with the fellow Basque said to be a huge fan of the Erreala star.
However, the problem Arsenal have faced and which Man Utd may face too is that the Spain international has thus far shown absolutely no inclination or willingness to leave his boyhood, hometown club Real Sociedad.
Zubimendi has spent his whole career at Real Sociedad, making 187 appearances and scoring seven goals. He won the Copa del Rey in 2020.
Previously he played for Real Sociedad’s B team, making 50 appearances and scoring four goals.
He has been capped 10 times by Spain, winning Euro 2024 and the Nations League last year.
