Manchester United are inching close to a deal for Manuel Ugarte, FootballTransfers can reveal.

We previously revealed that the Premier League giants had made the 23-year-old their number one target for the remainder of the summer transfer window and that Paris Saint-Germain would be open to a loan with an obligation to buy clause attached or a permanent transfer.

PSG are not willing to let Ugarte depart without seeing a return of €60m - which Man Utd are not prepared to do. However, we do understand that Man Utd's move for the youngster is not contingent on whether Casemiro, one of the club's highest earners, is sold. The Brazilian international is expected to deputise for Ugarte should his arrival materialise.

PSG have informed Man Utd that they would let Ugarte go on loan with an obligation, but the fee the French club have requested has been deemed to be too expensive. However, there is a large confidence from both sides that the deal will be finalised closer to the summer transfer window deadline.

Ugarte - who is valued at €41m by FootballTransfers' Estimated Transfer Value (ETVC) model - did not feature in PSG's Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre last Friday, with the player not being in Luis Enrique's plans.

Manuel Ugarte left out of PSG squad

Ugarte made 37 appearances for PSG last season, as they retained the Ligue 1 title, as well as the Coupe de France.

Ugarte is eager to join Man Utd and work under Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman believes that the Uruguayan is an upgrade to Scott McTominay, who he has made available for sale.

So far this window, Man Utd have completed the signings of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, as well as Leny Yoro, who arrived from Lille.

A pair of Bayern Munich defenders were added to the squad with Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui reuniting with Ten Hag.
