Wan-Bissaka asking for payoff to leave

Manchester United are hoping to cash in on Aaron Wan-Bissaka as he enters the final 12 months of his contract but the right-back is thought to be demanding a significant payoff to leave the club.

Wan-Bissaka is in talks with West Ham over an exit, which would allow United to pursue a deal for Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui, but the sale has so far proven difficult.

A report from West Ham blog Claret & Hugh claims that Wan-Bissaka is asking for £7 million (€8m) to leave United, as he believes seeing out his contract will prove more lucrative for him.

United are reluctant to sanction that type of payout, while West Ham are not willing to pay that on top of a transfer fee, leaving the deal in limbo until an agreement can be reached.

Berge deal progressing

United are continuing their pursuit of Burnley midfielder Sande Berge, with a deal likely to cost up to €35m.

Contact is already thought to have been made with the player’s representatives and Burnley would be willing to cash in on the player they paid €15m for last summer.

United are thought to be willing to pay in excess of €20m but Burnley are likely to demand more as Erik ten Hag’s side search for a cheaper alternative to Manuel Ugarte.

De Ligt a ‘second rate defender’ says United legend

United are still hoping to sign another centre-back this summer, with Matthijs de Ligt likely to be the man brought in as talks continue with Bayern Munich.

Bayern are first waiting to seal a deal for Jonathan Tah before sanctioning a sale for De Ligt and the Bundesliga side have reportedly given Bayer Leverkusen a deadline of this weekend to sell them their target.

However, Paul Scholes has revealed his doubts over De Ligt due to the defender not playing as much for Bayern Munich.

"At Bayern Munich, he's not playing for them,” Scholes said. “That's a big concern for me especially when Eric Dier is playing ahead of him.

"Juventus got rid of him, he wasn't good enough for them. He's not been good enough for Bayern, and he's coming to us almost like a second-rated defender, but he might be a good signing. Don't get me wrong."

Rivals add Man Utd target to shortlist

Despite already signing Joshua Zirkzee this summer, United have considered bringing in another striker, particularly with Rasmus Hojlund set to miss the start of the new season.

Ivan Toney had been one of the names considered due to availability on a cut-price deal with his contract set to expire next summer but the Brentford man is now reported to be a target for Tottenham.

Spurs are considering a move for Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke but Toney is also an alternative, in a move which would see United start the season with just Zirkzee and Hojlund as their two specialist number nines.

Erik ten Hag has described the impact he believes new coach Ruud van Nistelrooy will bring to the club after the former United striker joined his backroom staff this summer.

“Of course, strikers can take benefit from him because he was such a great striker,” Ten Hag recently told Sky Sports.

“He scored so many goals. He carried so much success. So yeah, definitely he will help the strikers in different areas. But definitely on the mental side, in bringing over his desire to win games by scoring goals.

“I have a strong belief in the person and a strong belief in his skills to help our team score goals. But also to help our team work as a team, and that means we are attacking with 11.
