Newcastle’s plan to ward off Arsenal and Liverpool interest in England star
Newcastle have a plan to ensure that Anthony Gordon stays at the club amid interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, according to the latest reports.
The winger enjoyed his best-ever campaign last term with 20 goal contributions in total. But PSR issues meant that the Magpies had to look to sell during the summer transfer window, with the youngster being among their most valuable assets.
Luckily for them, they managed to offload other players such as Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson, who joined Brighton and Nottingham Forest, respectively.

But it did emerge that Gordon had his head turned by Liverpool, his boyhood club. The winger is now in the England squad and will be hoping to enjoy another great season at St James' Park.
But his future remains open with his contract up in 2026. But Newcastle will now look to make the former Everton man their highest earner, according to the Daily Mail.
The outlet reports that: "Newcastle will offer to make Anthony Gordon their highest earner on a deal worth close to £9million per season as they try to convince him to stay."
It's thought that talks are already underway over a new deal, which could land Gordon some £170,000 a week before tax. At the moment, club captain Bruno Guimaraes is the club’s top earner on around £160,000 a week, but if accepted Gordon would leapfrog this amount.
It's also stated that "Arsenal are monitoring the winger’s situation very closely" and that Liverpool remain keen on the attacker, too.
The publication states that the 23-year-old was open to leaving for a Champions League side before the new season got underway.
But this fresh move by Newcastle should keep Gordon at Tyneside for the foreseeable. If Gordon does not choose to accept the contract, the club will look to move him on in the summer window of 2025.

Newcastle in contract talks with star duo
Alexander Isak is another star player Newcastle wish to see remain with them. The Northern Echo has reported today that as well as Gordon, the Swede and the Magpies are in discussions over a contract renewal too.
The forward came off at half-time during Sunday’s 2-1 win at Wolves after picking up an eye injury. He is under contract to Newcastle until the summer of 2028 but his status as one of the club's most important players is not reflected in his deal, the outlet states.
"Newcastle officials are mindful that the Swede could almost certainly earn more if he was to move to the likes of an Arsenal, and are therefore keen to negotiate a new long-term agreement that will afford them more security over his future."
Tying both down would be seen as a huge win for Newcastle, who are looking to regain entry to Europe, in particular, the Champions League this season.
