Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has revealed that the club have already lined up who will replace Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola, 54, is out of contract next summer and although reports have suggested that he may extend his current deal at the Etihad Stadium, an exit is deemed a real possibility.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss was heavily linked with replacing Gareth Southgate as the next permanent England manager, but that has been ruled out thanks to the FA’s appointment of Thomas Tuchel.

However, Guardiola may still depart Man City when his contract expires in 2025.

The Spaniard has won 18 trophies since arriving in 2016 and he has guided the club to four consecutive Premier League titles.

But, Txiki Begiristain’s imminent departure has raised questions over Guardiola’s future at the Etihad Stadium, with Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim widely tipped to become the next Man City head coach.

Amorim has performed admirably with the Lisbon giants and with Sporting CP’s sporting director Hugo Viana set to replace Begiristain next summer, speculation has increased dramatically.

In addition, FootballTransfers understands that Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso is also being considered by Man City as they search for Guardiola’s successor.

What has Ederson said?

Ederson has provided an update on Man City’s managerial situation and has claimed that Guardiola’s replacement has already been identified by the club.

“City is a very well-structured club, well-managed, great directors, great CEO,” Ederson told TNT Sports Brazil.

“I believe the club already has the next manager in mind. The day Pep decides to leave, they will try to follow the same line of work.

“Of course it’d be a great loss [if Guardiola left]. We’re talking about the best manager in the world but I see a really well-prepared club for the post-Pep era.”
