Real Madrid take MAJOR step in Alexander-Arnold transfer from Liverpool
Real Madrid have taken the next step in luring Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool next summer, with reports in Spain claiming that contact has been made between the Spanish giants and the player.
Alexander-Arnold is in the final year of his contract at Anfield and the 25-year-old has so far resisted any efforts to extend his deal, with a desire to see how the club progresses under new manager Arne Slot.
Real have outlined Alexander-Arnold as their ideal long-term successor to captain Dani Carvajal and, having previously just ‘monitored’ the right-back, Relevo state that ‘several contacts’ have been made with the player’s entourage to gauge sentiment over a move.
According to the Spanish outlet, Alexander-Arnold has ‘not responded’ to any of Liverpool’s proposals, with a fresh approach coming ‘recently’, leaving a transfer to Real ‘open’.
Real are hoping to seal the future of their wing-back positions on a free transfer next summer, with Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies expected to join when his contract also expires in 2025.
Real looking to capitalise on Trent and Jude relationship
The report claims that Alexander-Arnold is not a ‘strategic’ signing operated over the long-term like that of Vinicius Junior or Endrick, but rather a market opportunity due to Alexander-Arnold’s contractual situation, like the deals to bring Kylian Mbappe and Antonio Rudiger to Madrid in recent times.
Alexander-Arnold is seen as the ‘perfect’ option for Real, although the La Liga champions are aware that they are not alone in the race for the Liverpool star.
Real value Alexander-Arnold’s versatility and experience despite his relatively tender age, with Los Blancos hoping to phase out Caraval and Lucas Vazquez in the coming months.
There is also a belief that Alexander-Arnold’s strong relationship with England teammate Jude Bellingham could convince the defender to make the move from Liverpool to Real next summer, although the Reds are still understood to be holding out hopes of a renewal.
Alexander-Arnold had recently admitted he wanted to compete for trophies at the highest level, however he has also previously insisted his desire to captain Liverpool and continue to establish himself as a club legend at his boyhood team.
