The 39-year-old has been announced as the next permanent Man Utd head coach, following Erik ten Hag’s sacking earlier this week, although he will remain at Sporting until 11 November due to a notice period clause in his contract.

As a result, Amorim’s first official game as Man Utd boss won’t come until the Red Devils face Ipswich Town on 24 November, with Ruud van Nistelrooy in interim charge for the club’s next three fixtures.

While Amorim remains focused on his current role at Sporting, he has given a message to Man Utd fans as he prepares to become the sixth different permanent boss since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

Ahead of Sporting’s clash against Estrela on Friday night, Amorim told the Man Utd Scandinavian Supporters Club: “Thank you very much for your support. I will not let you down.”

Man Utd acted swiftly to confirm the arrival of Amorim as their new head coach, with Omar Berrada reportedly flying to Lisbon immediately after informing Ten Hag that he was sacked.

Furthermore, the Red Devils’ decision to appoint Amorim has gone down well with Diogo Dalot, who told Sky Sports: “He's obviously a fantastic coach, young mentality but he knows what he wants.

“Very demanding, that's what I can expect and I think that's a perfect match for a club like this. The standards are really high. I hope it can be a really good match and I wish for us to win together.

“The Premier League really suits people from Portugal. It's been all over the years that Portuguese managers and players have come to England and been successful, so I really hope it's one more case and I am really excited to start working with him.

“We are going to be a team. We have to work with each other and we will help him in some ways and I am sure he will help us.”
