Ruben Amorim has warned Marcus Rashford that he will remain out of the Manchester United side until he starts behaving to the standards expected of a United player.

Rashford, who has been dropped from the squad for the last three games against Manchester City, Tottenham and Bournemouth, recently opened up in an interview with Henry Winter, saying he's open to leaving the side.

Amorim has suggested that Rashford's omission is down to performances in training and has nothing to do with the interview in which Rashford said he wants to leave the club.

"When I feel that it is the right moment I will change something until then I will continue to think about what is the best for the team," Amorim said via ESPN when he was asked about Rashford's situation.

"I speak with him every day, not about the interview but about the performance.

"It's my decision. He wants to play. He is trying. It's my decision, only my decision. I'm trying to do things my way. And it's the only way I know if I don't do that I will lose myself and I will not lose myself. I know what I'm doing."

Asked what Rashford needs to do before being chosen again, Amorim said: "Be the best that he can be.

"If you have big talents, big performance, big responsibility, big engagement, push forward everybody in this moment. And some guys have a big responsibility here because they are here for a long time. So this is maybe one of the lowest moments in our club. So we have to face it and be strong in this moment. That's what I want for every player on the team."

"It's not [a distraction] for me," said Amorim. 'Not for the other players because everybody is there every day during training, they understand. That is the key point. For the media and for the other people I cannot control that.

Amorim to make Rashford decision

What Marcus Rashford said?

“For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps.” Rashford told Henry Winter after returning to his old primary school, Button Lane.

“When I leave it's going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.

"If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me.”

Rashford continued: “I’m halfway through my career. I don’t expect my peak to be now. I've had nine years so far in the Premier League and that’s taught me a lot, that’s helped me grow as a player and as a person.

“So I don't have any regrets from the last nine years. I won’t have any regrets going forward because I take things day by day and sometimes bad things happen, sometimes good things happen. I just try and keep a fine balance.”

Amorim has now responded to Rashford's actions by leaving him out of the squad for the match against Bournemouth.

When asked for his reasons for dropping Rashford again, Amorim replied: "It is my decision, and it always will be. I want to see the best of my players, and then I try different things with different players, so that is my focus."

This omission will further fuel reports that Rashford will be sold in January.

Ruben Amorim is reportedly eager for Rashford to be sold and the Portuguese tactician is keen to trim down the first-team squad at Old Trafford when the January transfer window opens.

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have both been touted as possible destinations for Rashford, as have Saudi Pro League clubs.
