Sources have told FootballTransfers that discussions have broken down between Mikel Arteta’s side and the Belgium international attacker, putting his future at the club in doubt.

Arsenal had offered him a one-year extension with the option of an additional year, falling in line with the club’s typical policy on players who are over 30 years old. This was immediately knocked back, leaving both parties unhappy.

The Gunners are especially frustrated by the state of affairs, with the Emirates side having previously agreed with the player that the situation would be resolved by the turn of the year.

The breakdown in negotiations occurred prior to Christmas, which raises questions over whether Trossard’s poor form is connected to these developments. The 30-year-old has scored four goals and created three in 28 appearances across all competitions this season.

Trossard’s future in doubt as talks postponed

Discussions over Trossard’s deal have been paused for now due to Arsenal's busy schedule and the January transfer window, with talks expected to resume at the end of the season. Given his current form and the impasse in negotiations, there’s a strong chance that he might be sold.

Arsenal typically move quickly to secure players with only a year left on their contracts, but the stall in discussions could indicate a potential departure. Trossard’s current contract runs until 2026.

FootballTransfers previously revealed that the Gunners are seeking to step up their chase for a wide player, with the club willing to put down €58 million to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club if the player gives an indication that he is open to making the move.

If Trossard is moved on, this would increase the need for Arsenal to land such a player.
