Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that his side are working on signing a striker before the close of the transfer window on 3 February.

The Gunners have been in the market for a centre-forward since the summer, yet given huge asking prices for their targets at that time, the club was reticent to spend.

With Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus both struck down through injuries in recent weeks, Arsenal have lost two key offensive cogs and Arteta has now said that both need to be replaced in order for his side to be competitive.

“We lost two very important players in Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus. We lack goals, we lack people and we lack options. It’s clear,” the Arsenal boss confessed.

“If we can get the right player, that’s why we are actively looking at it.

“We ARE working on it, yes.”

RB Leipzig make Sesko transfer decision

One of the players that Arsenal are actively pursuing is RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko.

FootballTransfers understands that Sesko has emerged as the Gunners top target ahead of the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen. Juventus No.9 Dusan Vlahovic had also been a target, but sources have revealed that talks over a deal have stalled.

On Thursday, there were renewed reports of Arsenal bidding for Sesko. These have been firmly rebuffed by the Bundesliga side, who saw the striker open the scoring in a 2-1 Champions League win over Sporting CP this week, a match that Gyokeres also netted in.

RB Leipzig boss Marcel Schafer appears to have decisively shut down transfer talk over the 21-year-old.

“There is definitely no contact with any other club or any discussions regarding Benjamin Sesko. We are very happy to have Benji in our squad. He is one of the top attacking talents in Europe and is currently in excellent form. He will continue to wear the RB Leipzig jersey,” he told Sky Sport Deutschland.

Arsenal’s hunt for a striker continues, with it apparent that Arteta is desperate to do business.
