Chelsea boss accused of DELIBERATELY getting himself sacked

Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter faces the remarkable accusation that he deliberately got himself sacked from the post at Stamford Bridge amid comparisons with Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim.

Chelsea spent a record fee to sign Potter from Brighton in September 2022, signing a five-year deal with the Stamford Bridge side. He would, however, be sacked the following April following a disastrous run of results that saw the Blues lingering 11th in the Premier League standings.

He has not been back in work since, rejecting the opportunity to hook up with many high-profile clubs both in England and abroad.

His performance at Chelsea, however, was so bad that veteran beIN Sports presenter Richard Keys claims he was working to get himself fired.

Keys was speaking about Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim, who he claims is now doing exactly the same thing at Old Trafford.

“He’s actually trying to get the sack,” Keys claimed amid an argument in which he claimed that Amorim would change up his tactics if this was not the case.

The former Sky Sports anchor then turned his fire on the former Blues manager.

“Graham Potter did exactly that at Chelsea,” Keys claimed. “He was gone in no time.”

What was Graham Potter’s record at Chelsea?

Potter was Chelsea manager for 31 matches, during which he picked up only 12 victories. He was at the club only 206 days before being sacked.

His win percentage when he left the club stood at a disappointing 38.71%. Chelsea scored 33 goals under Potter and conceded 31.

This is comfortably the lowest figure for any permanent Chelsea boss since Glenn Hoddle won 33.76% of matches from 1993 until 1996.

Mauricio Pochettino, who succeeded Potter, picked up a win percentage of 50.9% yet this was still not enough to save him from the sack in the summer.
