Dominik Szoboszlai signs for RB Leipzig on four and a half year deal

Dominik Szoboszlai has completed a transfer from Red Bull Salzburg to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig on a four and a half year deal.

According to German newspaper BILD, the Austrian international makes the move to Germany for a reported fee of £18 million, with a clause stating that RB Leizpig will have to fork over 20 percent of a future fee.

The future of the Hungary international had been one of the main talking points leading up to the January window. Several clubs were credited with an interest, including Arsenal in the Premier League, but the 20-year-old has opted for the Bundesliga outfit.

Leipzig had long been considered favourites to sign Szoboszlai due to their close relationship with the Austrian outfit and have announced a deal for the attacker.

Speaking to the club website, the forward said: “I am very happy that the move to RB Leipzig worked out.

“The club has made great progress, is one of the best teams in the Bundesliga and is also causing a sensation in the Champions League.

“The move to Leipzig is perfect for my development, because I come to a top coach and an incredibly ambitious team that is very young, but has already gained a lot of experience and was able to celebrate some successes.

“I will be able to develop myself further here and of course I would like to help ensure that the club remains so successful in 2021. “

Szoboszlai makes the move to Germany just as his new side are fighting for their first Bundesliga title, level on points with Bayern Munich and just one behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

“With the signing of Dominik Szoboszlai we can strengthen our squad even more,” said RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff.

“With the transfer plus in the summer and reaching the round of 16 in the Champions League, we generated additional income in order to be able to carry out a transfer of this magnitude even in this financially difficult time.

“It was important to us to invest this additional income directly back into the team. With Dominik Szoboszlai, our squad is now even broader and gets additional quality.”
