How Olmo could end up leaving RB Leipzig for Barca
New Barcelona manager Xavi will be well aware of the dramatic changes he’ll have to make to his team in order to get the club back to where it once was.
That, undoubtedly, means cutting a number of players that simply don’t make the grade at the Catalan side and in return raising as much money as possible.
Naturally, a fire sale at Camp Nou will demand some new faces join the club and in return it seems as though Barca are fully intent on signing one player more than any other: Dani Olmo.
While there may be cheaper and more obtainable options, no player has been linked with a move to Barca as much as Olmo over the past six months. But why would the Bundesliga star wish to make the move to Spain and can Barca even afford him?
Why would Olmo want to move to Barca?
While Olmo may be developing perfectly well at RB Leipzig, there are certain personal and sporting factors that may pull the player towards Barca.
For example, the young midfielder grew up just 30 miles outside the Spanish city and took his first steps in the sport by training at the club’s famed La Masia youth academy.
As if that wasn’t enough of a pull for Olmo, he’s also spoken at length about how much of an influence and idol Xavi is for him.
"Taking Xavi as a role model for your career is definitely the right way to go if you want to achieve a lot. If I could achieve all that he has achieved, I would be very satisfied,” said the RB Leipzig star in an interview with Sport-Bild. When asked about his future at the German side, Olmo simply said: "We'll see."
Indeed, the German newspaper believe Olmo will be pushing for a move before the start of next season. But how could Barca afford to sign such a highly regarded player with their financial difficulties?

Could Barca sign him?
Although the Bundesliga side only paid €18.5 million for Olmo a few years ago, his profile in European football has shot through the roof and the attacking midfielder is now considered an established Spain international.
As such, Olmo’s value at this moment in time stands at €44 million and it would likely cost Barca something closer to €60m to sign the player anytime soon.
According to reports in Spain, the Catalan side may try to work around that by offering to loan the want-away star for an up-front fee of €10m, with an obligation to pay no less than €70m after the loan deal has come to an end.
