Hertha announce double signing of Khedira from Juventus and Radonjic from Marseille
Hertha have completed a double signing on deadline day with the acquisition of Sami Khedira from Juventus and Nemanja Radonjic from Marseille.
Khedira, a Germany international, started his career with Stuttgart before earning a huge move to Real Madrid in 2010.
He would spend five successful seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu, winning La Liga and the Champions League, before moving to Juventus on a free transfer.
Over the past couple of years, however, injuries and a lack of form has seen him drop down the pecking order in Turin, to the extent that he and Juventus actually agreed on the mutual termination of his contract.
Available as a free agent, he was linked with a number of clubs including Everton, but opted to return to his homeland with Hertha.
“Hertha BSC offer me the opportunity to return to the Bundesliga. I am grateful for that and honestly I can’t wait to be on the field in a blue and white jersey,” Khedira told the club’s official website.
“I feel very good physically and with the experience I have gained over the past few years I would like to help the team and lead Hertha BSC to more sporting success.
“We’ve been in discussions for a couple of days,” he added.
“What’s important is that I enjoy my football and that the club wants to continue developing and be successful. I followed the Bundesliga really closely even from abroad and so I had obviously seen all the reports in the press.
“Berlin is the capital city and Hertha is a club that definitely belongs higher than they are. I’m really looking forward to helping out with that!”
As well as Khedira, on deadline day Hertha also announced the signing of defender Radonjic on loan from Marseille until the end of the season.
