Rummenigge ‘100%’ certain Flick will stay at Bayern Munich next season
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is “100%” sure that Hansi Flick will remain the Bundesliga club’s head coach next season.
Despite winning the Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League last season, Flick’s future at Bayern has been put in doubt due to the impending retirement of Rummenigge.
The former Germany forward is believed to be the buffer between Flick and the club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, who reportedly disagree on issues surrounding the first team and players bought and sold for it.
On top of that, Flick has been very publicly courted as a potential replacement for Jogi Low, with German FA national team director Oliver Bierhoff recently suggesting that it “would be crazy to rule that out”.
However, Rummenigge fully expects Flick to stay at Bayern next season and doesn’t believe internal rivalries or the allure of the national team will change that.
When asked by Sport1 if he believes Flick will stay in Munich next season, Flick said: “One hundred percent.
“Besides, as a player he had his best and most successful time at Bayern. That will also apply to his time as coach.”
When asked if he thought Flick may go searching for new challenges after winning everything he can win at Munich, Rummenigge still remained confident that his head coach’s appetite for success will survive after a potentially second successful season.
“Hansi Flick famously said: ‘Success is only for hire.’ That says it all. I see Hansi as an extremely ambitious coach and person,” said the Bayern CEO.
“What should Uli Hoeness or Franz Beckenbauer have said, who have won what felt like 100 titles?
“They kept going and almost became even more ambitious. Hansi experienced the FC Bayern gene as a player and internalised it again in an extreme way as a coach.
“It’s important to keep setting yourself new goals. Even if you’ve already won everything. Then you have to confirm your successes.
“Hansi Flick ushered in a very successful time at FC Bayern and will continue in this style.”
