Tottenham target Nicolas Gonzalez comments on transfer rumours amid Dortmund interest
Stuttgart’s Argentine forward and current Tottenham target Nicolas Gonzalez is subject to interest from Borussia Dortmund this summer, Sport Bild reported on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old scored 14 goals last season as Stuttgart were promoted from 2. Bundesliga and has added a further six goals in Germany’s top division this campaign.
“I didn’t speak to Dortmund, that’s my advisor’s responsibility anyway. But BVB is a top club,” Gonzalez told Sport Bild.
“I want to move on to the next level at some point. I would put the chance that I would still play in Stuttgart next season at 50:50”
Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham are said to be keen on the player as the club have yet to find a solution to Harry Kane’s injury woes.
Spurs signed Carlos Vinicius on loan from Benfica as a backup to the England international, but Mourinho has instead preferred to use Heung-Min Son up front when their main man is out, highlighting a lack of trust in Vinicius to lead the line.
Gonzalez only extended his contract with Stuttgart for another year, until 2024, last year, but the club could be forced to sell because of the financial losses occurred due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Reports in Germany are that a key player will have to be sold, meaning Gonzalez, Silas Wamangituka or Orel Mangala will be set to leave.
The club will make a significant profit on their prized asset, who signed for “about seven million euros”, according to a former Stuttgart board member.
