Man Utd need to ‘give everything’ to sign Erling Haaland, says Ferdinand
Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United need to do everything they can to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
The Norwegian striker is one of the most sought-after players in world football at the moment following his goalscoring exploits over the past 18 months, with several elite clubs reportedly competing for his signature.
In the 2020/21 campaign alone, Haaland as scored 31 goals in 29 starts in all competitions including 19 in the Bundesliga.
He recently became the fastest player in history to score 20 Champions League goals, having remarkably achieved that feat after just 14 matches.
With Man Utd set to be on the lookout for a new centre-forward this summer, Ferdinand believes there should only be one name on their list.
“You know what, they’ve just got to go and give everything to get Haaland, I don’t care,” the former United defender said on his YouTube channel.
“I don’t like to talk about players coming from other teams but this guy man, we can’t afford to let this guy go anywhere else.
“His only destination is England, that’s the only place he’s going. If he goes anywhere else I’d be so surprised.
“Born here, born and bred. He obviously loves English football, his dad played here. I’m sure it’s one of his dreams to come and play in England.
“Why not in the red shirt at Old Trafford? Be the guy that brings trophies back to Man United and brings the successful period back. Be that guy.”
Who will sign Erling Haaland?
As well as Man Utd, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea have all been credited with an interest in Haaland.
He reportedly has a release clause in his current contract with Dortmund that would allow him to leave if triggered in the summer of 2022, but many of his suitors believe a fee can be negotiated at the conclusion of the current campaign.
