Erling Haaland at Dortmund: Goals, assists, results & fixtures in 2021-22
Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland is one of the most sought-after talents in European football and it's for good reason.
The Norwegian forward has made scoring goals and creating assists for the German giants look like as easy as pie, as he's overcome some of the best defenders the Bundesliga and Champions League have to offer.
The towering striker has managed to blend his towering physique with blistering pace and as such defenders up and down the continent have struggled to get anywhere near him for the past 18 months.
Haaland has been linked with moves to just about every major club in Europe as the continent's super clubs look at their cheque books and wait eagerly for the 2022 summer transfer window.
However, before all that, Haaland has plenty of football to play in the German Bundesliga and is showing no signs of malaise or disinterest in front of goal.
His season started in ideal fashion as he scored a hat-trick in the 3-0 DFB-Pokal win over Wehen Wiesbaden on August 7, 2021.
Haaland’s first Bundesliga outing of the campaign went superbly too, as he netted twice and added three assists in the 5-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on August 14.
The striker also scored in his first Champions League appearance of 2021/22 on September 15 in a 2-1 win over Besitkas.
Haaland missed the 1-0 Bundesliga defeat away to Gladbach on September 26 due to a muscular problem, as well as the Champions League win against Sporting CP on the following Tuesday and then the 2-1 win over Augsburg in the German top flight on Saturday.
Haaland finally returned to the Westfalenstadion pitch on October 16, when he unexpectedly started the club's Bundesliga clash with Mainz. Although it was Marco Reus who stole the headlines with a tremendous volley, Haaland confirmed all three points from the penalty spot by converting a penalty in the second half and then a second in the dying moments of the game.
Unfortunately for the Norway international, he was little more than a passenger as his side were well and truly thumped by a well-drilled Ajax side at the Amsterdam Arena, as Haaland struggled to get any shots away, never mind score goals.
Haaland suffered a hip flexor injury prior to the match against Arminia Bielefeld on October 23 and there are fears that he could be out for the rest of 2021.
The Norway striker made a dramatic return for Dortmund in a win over Wolfsburg in late November, coming on as a late sub and scoring a goal almost immediately.
Haaland then continued his goalscoring form by starting in the first Der Klassiker of the season, bagging a goal despite his side losing 3-2 to Bayern Munich. After that he came on as a late substitute in Dortmund's 5-0 victory over Besiktas in the Champions League, helping himself to two goals.
The attacker started Dortmund's next game in the away trip to Bochum but for one of the first times this season, he failed to score in a 1-1 draw. He did, however, grab an assist.
Haaland didn't stay out of the goals for long. In the very next match, Haaland struck twice in a 3-0 victory over Greuther Furth. These were a penalty and a towering header.
He drew a blank in the last match of 2021 and first game of 2022. Both were five-goal thrillers - with Dortmund losing 3-2 to Hertha and then sparking a great comeback to win 3-2 over Frankfurt. Haaland grabbed an assist in the latter.
He was back on the goal trail at the next opportunity, however. In a 5-1 win over Freiburg, Thomas Meunier struck an early double before Haaland struck two more goals en route to an easy win.
Haaland & Co. were then unceremoniously knocked out of the German Cup by St Pauli, despite a goal from the Norway international.
But Dortmund then bounced back in the following league game againsts Hoffenheim, with a 3-2 victory on the road in the Bundesliga, in which Haaland continued his goalscoring form.
Haaland then missed no less than six games with a muscle injury and only returned to action for Dortmund in mid March.
Since then the Norway striker has been working his way back to fitness but looking far like his old self, having now gone six league games without scoring a goal. However, Haaland did provide an assist in Dortmund's last game, which was a 2-0 win over Stuttgart.
