How much would Arsenal and Man Utd target Nkunku cost?
Christopher Nkunku was at his absolute best on Saturday evening, as his RB Leipzig side tore apart Borussia Dortmund.
Despite what was supposed to be a wonderful homecoming for Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham in the first full Westfalenstadion in almost three years, it was the French winger who stole the show with one goal and two assists on hte night.
Such a performance now means that the France international is now sitting on a remarkable 27 goals and 17 assists in 40 games for RB Leipzig, ahead of a summer transfer window which will surely have a number of clubs fighting for his signature.
The former Paris Saint-Germain graduate has attracted interest from bigger clubs in England with deeper pockets, with Arsenal being a long-term admirer and ESPN suggestinglately that Manchester United could also look to sign him in the summer.
However, when asked about the prospect of cashing in on Nkunku’s talent in the summer window, RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff was quick to dismiss the idea.
"He will also play with us next season because of course he is a very important player,” noted the RB Leipzig boss to Sky90 with some clarity.
How good is Nkunku?
Nkunku needed very little time at all to adapt to the German top flight when he moved to Leipzig in 2019 for €13 million.
In his first season with the club, the French winger picked up an impressive five goals and 16 assists for Julian Nagelsmann’s side despite playing in a number of positions in midfield and attack.
In the following season, Nkunku was played more centrally as a No.10 and still contributed a lot to RB Leipzig’s push for a title challenge, by picking up seven goals and 11 assists.
However, this season has seen the France international really step up a gear for the Saxony side, with a remarkable 27 goals and 17 assists in just 40 games across all competitions.
How much would he cost in the summer?
While Arsenal and Liverpool may be looking to sign the player in the summer, there are a number of factors that would make him an expensive transfer target.
After considering the aforementioned form that he’s on right now, it’s also worth bearing in mind that Nkunku is only 24 years of age and has a contract with RB Leipzig until 2024.
As such, according to FootballTransfers’ algorithm, Nkunku is currently valued at €48 million and could cost as much as €58m to sign in the summer.
