There was very little for Borussia Dortmund to celebrate on Thursday night after their heavy 4-2 defeat to Rangers in the Europa League.

Not only was the result the Bundesliga side’s heaviest in the history of the European competition, but it also underlined the problems that have plagued Marco Rose’s side for much of the season.

One bright spark on the night was a tremendous goal from Jude Bellingham in the second half, which was followed by a truly outstanding long-range finish from Raphael Guerreiro to allow Dortmund to grasp onto something ahead of the second leg.

However, regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season, Thursday’s clash was just the latest example of how good Bellingham is and why the England international may already be too good for the Bundesliga side.

Is Bellingham already too good for Dortmund?

Despite only being 18 years of age, there’s little doubt that Bellingham has already established himself as a Dortmund first team player and has perhaps already become one of the club’s most important players.

The England international already has five goals and 11 assists in just 31 games for the Bundesliga side. Which makes him Dortmund’s fourth best goal scorer and the club’s top playmaker.

When we combine that with the fact that Bellingham is a proper No.8 and therefore defends as well as he creates goals, it just goes to show that he’s already thriving in Dortmund’s midfield and potentially their most important player in that area of the pitch.

Where could he go?

Due to the player’s remarkable form for Birmingham City and now Dortmund, Bellingham is essentially a household name in England and as such has been linked with a number of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea seem to be leading the way in that regard, due to the fact that all three clubs are in desperate need of midfielder reinforcements this summer. Manchester City have also been linked with a move too.

Whether any of these clubs will make a bid for the midfielder and whether Dortmund would accept such an offer remains to be seen, but it may not be long before Bellingham is already thinking about making the next step up in his career.
