'We're thinking about his future' - Man Utd, Barca and Madrid target edging closer to Dortmund exit
Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona could be about to take advantage of one of Borussia Dortmund’s most promising players leaving the club this summer.
The Bundesliga giants are still in the race for the German league title and could yet contest this season’s Europa League.
However, such prospects don’t seem intriguing enough to one striker at the club who could end up pushing through a move away from the German side at the end of the season.
According to Sport-Bild, young striker Youssoufa Moukoko is growing increasingly frustrated at a lack of game time in Marco Rosa’s side this season and could look elsewhere for first team football next season.
Why could Moukoko leave Dortmund?
Although Moukoko’s record in the Dortmund youth teams stands at an incredible 90 goals and 16 assists in 56 games, the young striker hasn’t quite hit the same heights with the senior team and found himself become a largely ineffective late substitute in most games.
Indeed, to date the Germany international has managed just 649 minutes of football spread out over 28 appearances, with just three goals and two appearances to his name.
According to Sport-Bild, Rosa’s trepidation with starting Moukoko comes down to the fact that he’s simply too small and weak to lead the line for Dortmund and can’t play on either wing as a supporting forward. As such, he now finds himself fourth choice at the club in terms of strikers.
As such, the player has grown frustrated with his situation and his agent recently suggested that Moukoko may look elsewhere this summer rather than sign an extension to his deal, which expires in 2023.
"It is not a matter of course that Youssoufa is extending at Dortmund," Patrick Williams told BILD. "Of course, many clubs are interested in Youssoufa, that's no secret.
"The end of his contract in the summer of 2023 is getting closer, the top clubs have that on the slip."
“Yes, injuries have thrown him back a bit this season. Yes, the competition at BVB is of course great.
"But he hardly gets the playing time that he needs in the current phase of his career in Dortmund. So of course we think about what is best for the future."
Who could sign him?
Although we’re some way off Dortmund considering offers for the striker, his agent has suggested that top clubs may look to swoop in for Moukoko this summer and it’s easy to see why.
Reports in Spain had previously suggested that both Barcelona and Real Madrid scouted the player extensively when he was in Dortmund’s youth side and the club itself have confirmed that Manchester United were also keeping tabs on the young player.
If Moukoko does decide to draw a line under his time at Dortmund, the club may be forced to sell him this summer rather than see him leave the club for free in 2023.
