How Mbappe's contract demands at Madrid may rule out Haaland transfer
It now seems almost certain that Kylian Mbappe will leave Paris Saint-Germain to join Real Madrid next season.
While the French club may have held out some hope a few weeks ago, after they managed to beat their Spanish rivals 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League tie, PSG’s complete capitulation was another bitter reminder that Mbappe would probably never win the competition while playing in the French capital.
As such, Madrid now look set to collect their prize at the end of the season when Mbappe’s current deal expires. And according to Spanish newspaper Marca, details of the striker’s terms with the capital side have already been revealed.
How much will Mbappe earn at Madrid?
According to a new report from the Spanish publication, Mbappe is set to be rewarded with a contract that would see his annual salary at Madrid stand at an impressive €25 million.
As such, that would mean Mbappe would earn no less than €480,000 per week at the Spanish club, which is a notable bump on his current deal at PSG, which stands at around €22 million per year.
However, that’s not all Madrid are set to offer the French striker. According to Marca, Mbappe will also make between €60-80m as a signing bonus when he finally concludes negotiations with Madrid and officially joins the club.
How will that impact on a move for Haaland?
As has been reported for some time, Madrid are apparently hoping to bring in Erling Haaland at some point this summer too.
However, such news of Mbappe’s huge sign-on fee now pokes holes in the theory that Madrid would be able to pay for Haaland’s release clause of around €75 million.
If the Spanish giants do need to pay Mbappe around €80m just to sign with the club, it would likely mean that Haaland would demand a similar sign-on fee even after Madrid had paid for his transfer fee.
As such, signing both players this year could end up costing Madrid more than €230m, which seems like far too much, even by Madrid’s standards.
