Following a harrowing 4-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, there’s little doubt that Manchester United’s squad will need to be completely overhauled this summer.

The club will likely need to sign a new striker to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, a new box-to-box talent to replace Paul Pogba and there’s growing evidence by the week that a new central defender will be top of the list of priorities to replace Harry Maguire.

However, one position that has often been overlooked at Old Trafford is the right-back spot, where Ralf Rangnick has struggled to get much joy out of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.

Neither defender looks up to the task of being a Man Utd full-back and as such the club may need to invest in some fresh faces there as well. Luckily for the English giants, a transfer target may be readily available in the summer.

Why Mukiele could be on his way to Man Utd

One potentially right back target that Man Utd have been linked with in recent months is RB Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele.

The French talent has made a name for himself in the German top flight since moving from Montpellier in 2018 for €16 million and is now considered one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga.

As such a potential move to Old Trafford had initially sounded like an expensive venture for the English club. However, a new report could end up giving Man Utd the green light to sign the 24-year-old talent.

According to German newspaper Bild, Mukiele has rejected any offers to extend his contract at RB Leipzig.

As such, the player’s current deal is set to expire in 2023, with the club now keen on cashing in on his talent this summer before he is allowed to leave the club for free.

Mukiele is currently valued at €25m, but the German publication claims that RB Leipzig would be willing to sell the player for somewhere between €20-25m. Which would be a real bargain for Man Utd and something the club will surely consider at the end of the season.
