Even if Erling Haaland is more likely to join Manchester City than any other club, there isn’t any agreement in place yet. That’s according to Borussia Dortmund’s head of first-team football Sebastian Kehl.

He spoke to Sky Germany about the striker’s future ahead of the team’s impressive 6-1 win over Wolfsburg on Saturday, in which Haaland scored twice to end an 84-day goal drought at club level.

“No,” was his to-the-point answer when asked outright if any club already has an agreement in place to sign the striker at the lower €75m release clause, which needs to be triggered before the end of April.

Continuing, Kehl added: "We have a release clause that is well-known and there is a deadline. We want a decision as soon as possible.”

It makes sense for Kehl and Borussia Dortmund to want closure as soon as possible, since he will become the team’s sporting director in the summer, replacing Michael Zorc. Knowing Haaland’s future and the details of a potential transfer fee will allow him to start properly planning for the 2022/23 campaign.

Kehl discusses Haaland’s injury issues

It has also been reported this past week that Erling Haaland is concerned about the number of injuries he has suffered over the past year and that the striker wants to keep his medical reports as private as possible at this time, so that potential suitors aren’t put off.

The major reason for his recent goal drought – with his brace against Wolfsburg seeing the Norwegian back on the scoresheet for the first time since January 22nd – was that he’d missed six games in that time.

On Haaland’s physical issues and the tricky issue of whether to rush him back or not, Kehl said: “We have always been very very responsible with him. He always wants to play, so we need to always take the right decision together with him.”
