Nagelsmann denies Lewandowski rumours

Bayern Munich are confident about keeping star man and top scorer Robert Lewandowski at the club, amid rumours of his departure.

The Polish forward’s contract expires in the summer of 2023, and he has recently been linked with several clubs – most prominently, Barcelona.

There are some positive messages from head coach Julian Nagelsmann, though, who says he has a good relationship with Lewandowski.

On his relationship with Lewandowski: "Very, very good. I also immediately asked him about the recent rumours. But he denied everything. He told me what he said in the interview with Polish TV at the time. We have a very direct exchange."

Those above Nagelsmann have also been speaking positively about Lewandowski.

Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidžić says contract talks are planned for the future, but Bayern want to secure the league title first, which would be their 10th consecutive German championship.

"We will have talks; we are in good talks with some players. We want to become German champions first. Three points today [against Arminia Bielefeld] and then maybe clinch everything against Borussia Dortmund. We are in talks with Robert and his advisor, we will discuss this calmly."

Chief Executive Officer Oliver Kahn has also denied any rumours that Lewandowski is unhappy at the club, suggesting he wouldn’t be performing at such a consistent level had he not been settled at the Allianz Arena.

"I keep asking myself where this information comes from. I'm always very curious when I hear 'from club circles' or 'from the club'. Show me a player who is unhappy and still scores 30 to 40 goals a season"

Lewandowski joined Bayern Munich on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at Borussia Dortmund in 2014.

Since then, he has scored 341 goals for the club – the second-most in their history behind Gerd Muller, and has also won seven German league titles, three DFB Cups and one Champions League honour.
