Why Arsenal have blown their chance of re-signing Gnabry

Serge Gnabry’s contract talks with Bayern Munich have hit a wall, and that has alerted several clubs across Europe, who will be keen to take advantage of the situation.
One of the clubs interested in signing Gnabry is Arsenal, the German’s former club for whom he played between 2012 and 2016.
The Gunners were keen to explore the possibility of signing the player, with Gnabry even once saying that if he ever does return to the Premier League it would only be at Arsenal.

However, a move like this would be quite difficult – Arsenal’s failure to qualify for the Champions League has made this a complicated operation, as the loss of crucial funds puts a restriction on ambitious transfer plans like this.
At best, Arsenal will have to wait until next season to sign Gnabry, when his contract with Bayern Munich runs out, provided the winger doesn’t move anywhere else before that time.
According to reports from Germany, Gnabry’s refusal to extend isn’t entirely down to the financial offer on the table, and that is causing issues at Bayern, who are also negotiating with star forward Robert Lewandowski.

In addition to Arsenal, Gnabry is also of interest to Real Madrid, who believe they can secure the player following their failure to get Kylian Mbappe from Real Madrid.
Additionally, it’s believed that Gnabry has been asking about how life in Spain is, speaking to former Bayern team-mate David Alaba about living in Madrid.
From Bayern’s perspective, they are looking at Sadio Mane in case Gnabry departs, which may cause some confusion seeing as the Senegalese won’t come in cheap, and is three years older than the German.
It’s going to be a busy summer on this front – Bayern need wingers, Arsenal are interested but may miss out on their man and Real Madrid are keeping an eye on the situation.
