Bayern Munich transfer chief Hasan Salihamidzic has promised that the ugly war of words between the club and Robert Lewandowski will cease.

Lewandowski’s contract in Munich expires in 2023 and he has made a number of public statements in recent weeks over his desire to leave Bayern this summer.

The 33-year-old has regularly stressed that that he sees his Bayern career as over and has been extremely critical of the club.

What did Lewandowski say?

“My era at Bayern is over,” Lewandowski said a fortnight ago.

WHO ARE THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD?

“I don't see any possibility to continue playing for this club anymore.

“Bayern’s a serious club and I believe they won’t keep me, I don't want to play there anymore. A transfer is the best solution. I hope they don't stop me.”

These comments sparked a furious reaction from Bayern CEO and former legendary goalkeeper Kahn, who hit back at Lewandowski for his actions.

What did Kahn say?

“I can't tell you why Robert chose this path.

“Public statements like that don't get you anywhere.

“Robert became world footballer of the year here twice in a row – I think he should know what he has at Bayern.

“Appreciation is not a one-way street.”

A war of words between Lewandowski and Bayern officials has since followed while the Poland star has been on international duty.

But Salihamidzic says that both parties have promises to calm down.

What did Salihamidzic say?

"He has a contract until 2023 and we're very happy that he's here. I think things will get calmer now,” Salihamidzic said.

“We discussed about his public statements and that we should all calm down.”

Barcelona have made Lewandowski their number one target for the summer transfer window and they have been in talks to sign the former Borussia Dortmund star since March.

Lewandowski is keen to make the move to Camp Nou as he would like one final challenge at a bit club before the end of his career.

Bayern are desperate to keep Lewandowski next season but have begun looking around for possible replacements given the striker’s determination to leave.
